Review of Catch The Wind by Tomas Trujillo

Catch the Wind by Tomas Trujillo is a feel good tale that takes place in the early days of the depression in the deep south.  I immediately was able to picture the scenery as Tomas Trujillo can so easily describe it.

The two young teens, the main characters of the story, River and William, find themselves fast friends on the banks of the river where they go fishing. There friendship and trust in each other is sealed when they discover that their individual families are in trouble.

A tale of a huge gator in the swamps with a huge bounty on its head, entices River and William to go off on their own down the Mississippi River on a homemade raft.  Along the way, the boys find themselves in treacherous circumstances that threaten to do them harm.

What happens to River and William is for you to find out by reading the book.

This book had a very Mark Twain kind of feel to it, overall a good book and is an easy read. I could easily see this book read by middle school children especially those that dream big dreams. I could also see educators requiring this book as an alternative book exploring  some of the history of depression era, although, I caution that it is not an educational book per se.
